Melissa Boyle

Melissa has earned her place as one of Adelaide’s most respected and sought-after Family Law barristers. Her prowess is recognised by Doyles Guide, which lists her as a ‘Leading Family Law Barrister’ in Adelaide for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, acknowledging her reputation in the field. 

Melissa commenced as a Barrister in 2019 and completed the Bar’s Readers’ Course in 2019, being awarded the 2019 Christopher Legoe AO QC Endeavour Award. She signed the Bar Roll on 30 July 2020. 

As a key figure in her practice area of Family Law (including Property Orders, Parenting Orders and in the appellate jurisdiction), Melissa is also an active member of the South Australian legal community. She has been involved with committees of the Law Society of South Australia since 2012, and on the Family Law Committee since 2019. She was on the Council of the Law Society from 2018 to 2021.

She is regularly involved in presenting or chairing Continuing Professional Development presentations including chairing presentations on crucial topics such as ‘Complex Parenting Disputes: Understanding Autism in family matters involving allegations of risk to a child’ (The Law Society of South Australia, 30 June 2020) and topics on mediation, and authoring and presenting sessions on ethical issues, or the interplay between criminal and family law. 

With a deep understanding of the nuances, complexities, and often heart-wrenching nature of family breakdowns and parenting disputes, Melissa approaches her clients’ cases with empathy. She aims to explain the law clearly, seeking to alleviate legal ambiguities, provide her clients with information about their options, and help find the best possible outcomes for her clients. She is also an avid advocate for access to justice and enjoys mentoring other aspiring legal professionals.

Melissa is admitted to practice in both the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia.

Melissa is a member of the Law Society of South Australia, the South Australian Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.
